Flock printing, the application of wool or synthetic fibres to paper, was originally invented in the 17th century to imitate expensive cut velvet wall hangings. Petrouchka is traditionally printed in a range of jewel tones including drawing room red, beize green, shimmering black, indigo blue, and a vintage lilac.
